PLANT TESTING METHODS

  • Total Nitrogen/Carbon

    Combustion method using either a Carlo Erba 1500

    C/N analyzer or a Elementar EL Cube C/N combustion analyzer. Method P2.02 from the “Soil, Plant, and Water Reference Methods for the Western Region” and AOAC 990.03 

  • Minerals (P,K,Ca,Mg,Na,Al,B,Zn,Mn,Cu,Mo,S,Fe)

    Nitric Acid and Hydrogen Peroxide are used in a closed Teflon vessel and digested in a CEM Mars Microwave and analyzed on a Thermo 6500 Duo ICP. Method P-4.30 from the “Soil, Plant, and Water Reference Methods for the Western Region”

  • Extractable NO3-N, NH4-N, Cl

    Samples are extracted with 2% Acetic Acid and then analyzed on a FIA Lab flow injection analyzer. Method P-3.10 from the “Soil, Plant, and Water Reference Methods for the Western Region”

  • Moisture

    Samples are dried in a 60 degrees Celsius oven overnight

  • Drying

    Samples are dried in at 130 degrees Celsius forced air oven

    for 1-2 hours 

  • Grinding

    Samples are ground through Cyclotech Mill with a 0.50mm screen
